Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which affects an estimated quarter of the adult population and twice as many
women as men, is now the leading cause of absenteeism after the common cold.
No one is sure exactly what causes Irritable Bowel Syndrome, so as a result doctors tend to diagnose irritable
bowel syndrome by eliminating other disorders with similar symptoms, such as diverticulitis, Ulcerative Colitis,

If you think you have it - your first step is to get a definitive diagnosis. I can't stress the importance of
this enough - there is absolutely no way that IBS can be self-diagnosed, because there are so many other conditions
which cause bowel problems. At the very least you will need to rule out conditions such as Crohn's Disease, celiac
disease, and bowel cancer.
I believe this is so important it's worth doing it twice. If you are a woman you could simply have
endometriosis, and anyone can suffer from lactose intolerance. So, if you haven't had a doctor say to you that you
have IBS, keep going until you get a diagnosis.
The signs of Irritable Bowel Syndrome often include:-

An on going bacterial, viral, or
parasitic infection. Long-term use of antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used to treat
these symptoms are probably the biggest culprit. They lead to an overgrowth in the gut of fermenting
bacteria that thrive on oxygen. Their activities and their toxic by-products lead to increased
production of hydrogen and methane, damage to the intestinal wall and severely disrupted digestion |

Adverse reactions to food and junk
diets that are high in sugar and fat. Two-thirds of (IBS) sufferers, have food intolerances. The worst
culprits are wheat, dairy, coffee, tea, citrus fruits, and lactose (the sugar in cow's milk.) In 20% of
sufferers, potatoes are a problem too. An elimination diet that removes these foods has been shown
